I don’t make public statements about politics often. However, while terrible things happen to those with little or no control over the policies leading to that treatment, and while the public discourse continues to essentially be, “my team vs. your team“, I’d like to make my own opinion known:
It doesn’t matter what political system, political party, or socioeconomic system a nation has in place—corruption and greed will always surface at the top. There must be unavoidable accountability for those in charge at every conceivable level and the mechanisms for that accountability must be codified in the very immutable foundation of governance.
Until then, we are simply ignoring the inevitable and historically repeated failures rooted in virtually all policy throughout history.
I believe this includes universal term limits on all public offices (elected and appointed) to mitigate the reach of bad actors and acknowledgement that there are absolutely no apolitical branches or bodies of government, especially those appointed by existing political office holders.
I do believe that any and all political systems and forms of governance would be better served with straight forward, unavoidable accountability for leaders and representatives to foundational law. Period.
The less accountability there is for those in charge, the more abuse and corruption will exist.
There it is. My perspective. That’s it. The only other related thoughts I have are socially-directed towards individuals: have compassion, listen and hear what others are saying, recognize and respect the dignity of the individual, question your own perspectives often to check yourself against bias, and don’t treat others in a way that you wouldn’t want you or your family and loved ones to be treated; and if you are compelled by another to do so, resist in every way possible.
