One of my long-term personal projects has been to create a retro-style fantasy JRPG video game (in the vein of NES/SNES JRPGs of the 80s and early 90s).
However, I don't want to just make a game. I want to manifest one from the ground up. That includes creating the game engine, interfaces, graphics, and music as well as the story and gameplay. It's very much a "back burner" project that I only approach when I have spare time and the mood strikes to work on it. Its been years in the making, and likely as long before it will ever see the light of day.
While I have substantial aspects of the game underway (engine and sprite design) and have the plot wireframe completed, the music I've completed is something fun I can share now. So, here is the soundtrack for my (WIP) video game.

How I Make Video Game Music
All tracks here were written and composed by myself and compiled into audio using BeepBox version 3.0.13 and version 4.2, which is a great compact tool for sketching and creating instrumental music. BeepBox is is an open source project released under MIT license by Google software engineer and video game developer John Nesky. The source code for BeepBox can be download here at GitHub. The synth code of BeepBox allows for direct integration into JavaScript, which makes it a great inline option for development projects.
