I want the dungeon’s trapped souls to share a hidden thread rather than feel random. My approach is to give each group of soulbound creatures its own backstory, while weaving subtle connections between them.
As I expand the story room by room, my goal is to reveal an underlying narrative for adventurers to uncover: the souls are not random at all, but bound together by an interwoven history. Their deaths and damnation were not chance—they were deliberately orchestrated by the Gidasham.
This post will serve as my notes for building the framework of those connections.
Lament of the Sacred Grove —
In the heart of an ancient forest lay a sacred grove where a unicorn dwelled, the magical creature watched over by dryads and their animal companions. A greedy king of a nearby kingdom, desiring the mythical magic of the unicorn’s horn, sent soldiers to claim it. The dryads and beasts fought fiercely, but the unicorn was slain, and the grove was set ablaze. The king received his prize, and the sanctuary was left in ashes.
