On this page you will find an extensive version of my résumé that provides a level of detail that I do not typically include when providing a targeted résumé to a perspective employer. A link to this exhaustive variation will be included on every résumé I submit as a potential secondary reference for those seeking additional information about my background and experience.
Employment Goals
When it comes to my goals with employment, my approach is very direct. There are three factors that weigh into my decision to pursue an opportunity:
1. Is this something I am passionate about or believe I can become passionate about? I want my work to be something I'm proud of, and you want an employee that will be passionate about and dedicated to that work.
2. Is there opportunity to further develop my skills or obtain entirely new skill sets? I often think outside of the box, and having the opportunity to try new things and explore potentially more efficient and effective approaches is important to me.
3. Will this opportunity support my financial needs? I don't approach an opportunity with money in mind. I'm highly flexible when it comes to work I'm passionate about, but when the work has been done, if I can't pay the bills, then I won't be able to continue to invest my time.
Professional Experience
My professional experience is fundamentally divided into two chapters: 20 years focused on IT, software development, and web design (1995-2015). And then, 10+ years focused on the game industry (2015-present).
However, my experience with information systems, data management, and web and software design have still been called upon hundreds of times by game publishers who find my unique combination of skill sets beneficial.
- TTRPG Game Design & Development—
Have worked with over three dozen game publishing companies to contribute writing to nearly 300 published game books. Have singularly authored more than 80 published titles, including an entire campaign setting series of books and four hardcover publications. Experience developing and designing multiple card-based games, and contributed design to multiple board games. - Digital Graphic Design—
Have created graphic art and layout elements, including logo and branding design, for over 400 published gaming titles. Have designed and managed over 50 successfully-funded game industry Kickstarters that have raised more than a combined $6mil USD revenue. Designed visual elements (signage, banners, marketing props, cutouts, display counter covers, handbills, etc.) for gaming company booths at industry conventions like Gen Con. - Web Design & Development—
Experience as senior web developer and web designer having created hundreds of websites for small, medium, and large businesses, and local, state and federal governments. Developed and maintained proprietary corporate intranet applications, large scale e-commerce platforms, secure inter-agency data management platforms, and multiple packaged customer-facing content management systems. Maintain a strong understanding of GUI design and optimizing for end-user behavior. - Public Transit Scheduling—
Developed a proprietary software platform utilized by city and region-wide mass public transit providers. The software managed scheduling and integrated into GIS data, providing route planning, unit mileage tracking, and estimated fuel usage for over 200 buses. The software backend seamlessly integrated into state government data systems to file required reimbursement orders for Medicaid passengers. Also, developed a driver-facing web interface that connected to the software to create readable itineraries for each unit which were displayed on digital tablets installed in buses. - Machine Software Development—
Developed a custom error-handling and efficiency monitoring software that directly integrated into hundreds of automated knitting machines across multiple textile manufacturing plants, monitoring and prioritizing errors and outputting individual machine and row analysis to digital screens displayed prominently on factory floors to provide actionable realtime monitoring. Integrated with existing planning interface to allow for top-level dynamic adjustment to flex production to order forecasts. Increased multi-plant production by 80% within two months of being deployed. - Data Analysis & Database Administration—
Top level experience with data analysis pertaining to mass market retail including global market research, data integration, and actionable reporting. Worked directly with the buyers at several billion-dollar global and national mass market chain retailers to provide extensive sales forecasting, inventory management, and regional planogramming based on targeted micro-market analysis. - Computer Server Management—
Experience as a customer-facing certified systems engineer for international Windows server hosting company. Managed on-site and remote servers and was the point of contact for a client list of over 200 medium-to-large companies, including multiple Fortune 500 companies. - Advertising Design—
Extensive retail marketing and advertising design experience, including several Kentucky Press Service awards for excellence in advertising design and recognition for editorial supplements. Created dozens of editorial supplements utilized by the AP, and had ad designs featured in the “Creativity at Work” gallery by Adobe at their Photoshop World convention. - News Media & Print Publication—
Experience in the news media industry, working simultaneously for multiple newspapers and magazines. Familiarity with the publication process from start to finish including editorial scheduling, layout and design, on-boarding, film processing and plate prep, registration, and press configurations.
Areas to Improve
With an effort not to sound overly cliché, my belief is that improvement is a fundamental element of experience. My entire professional life has been the ever-repeating process of doing something, getting better at it, and then doing it better. Discovering ways that pool of experience can be applied to different sets of skills is at the core of how I function.
